MREA will have three seats open on its Board of Directors beginning January 1, 2017. Individuals interested in representing school districts in rural Minnesota are encouraged to apply.
Applications must be submitted online and need to include a written Statement of Interest indicating interest and ability in fulfilling the director responsibilities. The deadline for nominations is 5 pm, Wednesday, October 19.
MREA’s Board of Directors is comprised of 21 persons – 16 representative directors elected by the membership and 5 statewide directors appointed by the Board.
Each zone is represented by one school administrator, one teacher, one school board member, and one at-large member. The Board of Directors also appoints two representatives of higher education, two representatives from service cooperatives, and one representative of education districts.

Board Meetings
There will be five board meetings in 2017 plus the Annual Conference in November. January, March and April meetings are held in St. Paul; remaining meetings are held in Alexandria, Brainerd, and Detroit Lakes. Meetings are two days, generally starting late afternoon/evening and continuing until noon the second day.
Directors are reimbursed travel expenses, and MREA covers meals and lodging. Directors may also be eligible for per diem per board policy. Districts are reimbursed substitute pay for teacher representatives.
