The MREA Board of Directors is comprised of 21 persons — 16 directors elected by the membership and 5 statewide directors appointed by the Board.

Members in each zone elect 1 administrator, 1 teacher, 1 school board member, and 1 at-large director. The Board of Directors appoints 2 representatives of higher education, 2 representatives from statewide agencies (educational service cooperative), and 1 representative from an education district.

The Board makes every effort to appoint 1 agency representative from the southern 2 zones and 1 from the northern 2 zones as well as 1 higher ed representative from the southern 2 zones and 1 from the northern 2 zones. The education district representative may come from any rural area of the state.

There may be a 22nd seat on the Board, to be used only in the case of seating the individual who holds the office of “Past-President.”
